Jerzy Pruski graduated in economics from the University of Lodz. In 1989, he obtained the title of Doctor of Economics. From 1983 to 2009, he was employed at the Department of Economics of the University of Lodz. In 1989, he completed a research internship at the University of Oslo and in 1990 a one-year study programme at the University of Windsor in Canada. He has participated in a number of national and international research programmes on monetary policy and the banking system.
From 1991 to 1997, he worked at LG Petro Bank SA, inter alia as a Vice President of the Management Board. From 1998 to 2004 he was a member of the first Monetary Policy Council and from March 2004 to February 2008 he was the First Vice President of the National Bank of Poland, where he was responsible for financial stability issues. From 2006 to 2007, he was the NBP representative on the Banking Supervision Commission and the Financial Supervision Commission. From May 2008 to July 2009, he served as a President of the Management Board of PKO Bank Polski SA.
From September 2009 to January 2017, he served as a President of the Management Board of the BFG. From 2010 to 2015, he was a representative of the President of the Republic of Poland at the Financial Supervision Commission and, from October 2010, an economic advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland. From 1 February 2017 to November 2018, he served as a Vice President of Getin Noble Bank. On 7 November 2018, he was appointed a Vice President of the Management Board, Acting as President of Idea Bank.
