Polish economist, civil servant, former Deputy Minister of Finance, former Head of the UKIE, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy 2009-2010, Member of the Board of the NBP.
Between 1991 and 1996, he was in charge of the Foreign Aid Department in the Office of the Government Representative for European Integration and Foreign Aid. Then, from 1996 to 1997, he was a director of one of the departments in the Office of the Committee for European Integration. From 1997 to 1998, he was the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Finance. From mid-1998 until January 2002, he held the position of Undersecretary of State at the Office of the Committee for European Integration. In 2003, he took up the post of the Director of the Foreign Exchange Department at the National Bank of Poland, and from 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the NBP Management Board. From July 2009 to February 2010, he served as a Commissioner for Regional Policy at the European Commission. From 2010 he was again employed at the NBP, where he was a Director of the Foreign Department from August 2011. On 17 February 2014, he was reappointed as a member of the NBP Management Board, which is a position he held until 2020.
