prof. Marek Zirk-Sadowski

Judge, President of the Supreme Administrative Court (2016-2022)

He graduated from the University of Lodz in law in 1973 and philosophy in 1976. In 1976 he defended his doctoral dissertation in legal sciences and in 1984 his habitation thesis. He became an associate professor at the University of Lodz in 1990 and a full professor in 2000. In 1993-1999 he was a Vice-Rector of the University of Lodz, for six years he held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz. He also gave lectures at the European School of Law and Administration. He is the head of the Department of Theory and Philosophy of Law at the University of Lodz.
His research interests include analytical legal theory, hermeneutic philosophy of law, philosophy of community law and integration theory. He is an author of several books and academic articles and editor-in-chief of the "Archive of the Theory and Philosophy of Law".
In 1994, he became a judge of the Administrative Court. In 2004, the President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, appointed him a Vice-President of the Administrative Court. He also took up the position of President of the NSA Financial Chamber. On 17 February 2016, he received an act of appointment as President of the NSA from the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda. He held this position until 2022.
