LEGALISATION OF STAY - RESIDENCE CARD

You must apply for a residence card in Poland at the voivodeship office appropriate for your place of residence (Lodz Voivodeship Office) no later than 1 day before your visa expiry date, however, it is worth doing it earlier. 

IMPORTANT!!! The procedure for obtaining a residence card can take even more than 3 months. You are not allowed to leave Poland from the moment your visa expires until the moment of receiving the residence card! 

Relevant certificates related to residence card application, concerning employment at the University of Lodz (employment, remuneration, health insurance), are prepared by the Personnel Department, room 10 in the Rector's Office Building of the University of Lodz.

TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT TO CONDUCT SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH 

A residence card may be granted to a researcher, i.e. a foreigner holding at least a professional title corresponding to a master's degree (Pol. magister) or equivalent in the Republic of Poland, enabling them to apply for a doctoral degree, whose purpose of stay in Poland is to conduct scientific research or development works in a scientific unit established in the Republic of Poland approved by the minister competent for internal affairs.  

A residence permit is granted for the period necessary to achieve the purpose of the researcher’s stay for over 3 months up to 3 years on the Polish territory, with the possibility to apply for further permits. 

This permit entitles you to work without the need to obtain an additional work permit. The residence card, issued in connection with granting a temporary residence permit to an international researcher, includes annotations "access to the labour market" and "researcher". 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • you should submit the application for a temporary residence permit in person, no later than on the last day of your legal stay in the Republic of Poland; 

  • you can only collect the residence card in person; 

  • you will be fingerprinted for the purpose of issuing the residence card; 

  • you should submit original versions of the documents or their copies together with original versions for inspection in Polish; 

  • documents in a foreign language should include Polish translations prepared by a sworn translator. 

FAQ

  • 2 copies of the application for a temporary residence permit completed according to the instructions and if you are a researcher Attachment No. 4 

  • 4 current colour photographs, 45x35 mm, taken within the last 6 months on a uniform light background, having good focus and showing the eyes and face clearly, from the top of the head to the upper part of the shoulders; the face is to occupy 70-80% of the photograph; the photograph is to show a person looking straight ahead with open eyes and uncovered hair with a natural facial expression and closed mouth; 

  • valid travel document (2 copies of all pages containing stamps, annotations and entries, original versions for inspection); 

  • stamp duty payment certificate. 

Note! The submission of the abovementioned documents is necessary to initiate the proceedings. In the event of submitting the application without some of the abovementioned documents, you will be asked to supplement any formal deficiencies in the application. Proceedings may be initiated only after the missing documents have been completed within the indicated period and verified by the voivodeship office. 

At the time of filing the application: PLN 440, as well as PLN 5 for each page certified by an official (e.g. pages in a passport with a stamp, copy of the diploma). 

At the time of receiving the decision: PLN 50 for issuing the residence card.

The waiting time for issuing a decision on a residence permit results from the provisions of the Code of Administrative Procedures and the Act on Foreigners, and depends on the individual circumstances of the case. However, it usually takes over 3 months.  

You should complete any missing documents according to the content of the received summons at the indicated place and time. 

If you disagree with the decision, you can file an appeal against it. The appeal should be submitted to the Head of the Office for Foreigners through the Voivode, Governor of Mazowieckie Voivodeship within 14 days from receiving the decision.
