Konferencja ScienceCon 2022

The first edition of the international ScienceCon conference is combined with THE Impact Rankings 2022 Awards Gala. The event is organised jointly by PCG Academia, Times Higher Education and global publisher Elsevier. Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Lodz, will take part in a panel discussion devoted to conclusions from the evaluation of scientific activity and directions for further development of this process in Poland. The conference will be held in the building of Collegium Novum, which is the seat of the Jagiellonian University authorities in Kraków.

ScienceCon is addressed to higher education stakeholders, responsible for science management and sustainable development of the universities – representatives of authorities, functional directors, managers. ScienceCon 2022 will be implemented in a stationary (on-site) mode. Participation in the conference is free of charge, but limited (200 places).

Programme

The ScienceCon conference will be inaugurated by representatives of the event organiser and patrons. Prof. Łukasz Sułkowski (President of PCG Polska), prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk (President of CRASP), and prof. Jerzy Woźnicki (President of Polish Rectors Foundation) will take the floor. A speech of a representative of the Minister of National Education is also planned.

The first element of the conference will be a statistical summary of the recently completed evaluation process of scientific activity for the period 2017-2021. The presentation will be delivered by Marek Michajłowicz, Deputy Director of the Information Processing Centre (OPI), an organisation responsible for collecting and analysing data in the process of parametric evaluation of universities.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion panel devoted to conclusions drawn from the evaluation of scientific activity and directions for further development of this process in Poland. The debate moderated by professor Łukasz Sułkowski (President of PCG Polska, Head of the Higher Education Management Faculty, Jagiellonian University) will be attended by: Phil Baty (Chief Knowledge Officer, Times Higher Education), prof. Lauritz Holm-Nielsen (Rector Emeritus, Aarhaus University), prof. Stanisław Kistryn (Representative of the Rector of Jagiellonian University for cooperation within Una Europa) and prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska (Rector of the University of Lodz).

After the lunch break, a panel devoted to building the university's reputation internationally using modern IT solutions such as repository systems or CRIS class systems is scheduled. Michele Mennielli (Senior Global Strategist, LYRASIS), Marek Mikhailovich (National Information Processing Institute) and Tomasz Psonka (Research Solutions for CEE, Elsevier) have been invited to join the discussion led by Piotr Masalski (Sciencecloud Product Director, PCG Academia).

The high point of ScienceCon 2022 will be the first, Poland’s based ceremony of awarding the Polish universities participating in THE Impact Rankings The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings – the only international ranking of universities based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations. The ceremony will be preceded by a presentation by Times Higher Education representatives – Phil Baty and Michael Lubacz. Representatives of the Times will talk about the methodology of the ranking and they will share the findings of the data submitted this year by more than 1,200 universities from around the world.

The ScienceCon conference will be a regular event, permanently linked to the announcement of the Times Higher Education ranking results.
