University of Lodz has joined the prestigious group of universities associated within the alliance of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC). It is a joint initiative, but the alliance itself will be permanent and it will start a new era of education in Europe.
The goal of UNIC is to shape students and researchers who, by studying, teaching and working across Europe, will become change agents and play an important role in the transformation of urban regions. Thus, they will contribute to the resilience and renaissance of Europe’s post-industrial urban centres, bringing ‘science to the city’. As a result, a new generation of students and researchers with the knowledge, skills and societal consciousness will emerge. They will shape the future European Education Area will emerge.
This action will significantly strengthen the international competitiveness of the University of Lodz, ensuring an additional area of efficient scientific mobility and the opportunity to participate in interesting, European academic initiatives.
The partnership involves establishing close cooperation with universities associated in the UNIC alliance, as well as in the implementation of ambitious academic undertakings at the international level.
These include, among others, the creation of new joint study programmes and training programmes or the UNIC Inter-University Virtual Campus. In addition, works will be carried out on the implementation of interdisciplinary and innovative international projects aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education in Europe and building the potential of the cities and regions where these universities operate.
Joining the European University of Post-Industrial Cities is a great opportunity for us, especially since the assumptions of the alliance coincide with the goals contained in the new strategy of the University of Lodz. Participation in the programmes run by UNIC will give our students and employees new, unique opportunities to join the international academic community
– says prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Lodz.
UNIC is also a variety of initiatives, such as CityLabs (city laboratories, which are points of contact between the city and the academy) or UNIC Inter-University Campus (space supporting virtual and physical mobility).
The programme implemented by the alliance will also expand educational opportunities for students, including migrants and people living in disadvantaged socio-economic areas.
Originally, the European University of Post-Industrial Cities consisted of eight partner universities, and this year the University of Lodz and the University of Malmö (Sweden) have joined the alliance.
