Poezje prof. Jarniewicza z UŁ w finale Nagrody Literackiej „Nike”

"Mondo cane", the latest volume of poetry by prof. dr hab. Jerzy Jarniewicz from the Institute of English Studies, University of Lodz, is among seven books nominated for the finale of the 2022 Nike Literary Award.

prof. Jarniewicz

The title of Professor Jarniewicz's collection of poetry refers to the Italian film entitled "Mondo cane" from 1962, which initiated the shocking documentary films – the mondo trend – showing real death on the screen. The works in the collection refer directly to the dog-eat-dog world – the surrounding us world full of wars, cruelty and death.

This has been the second nomination of prof. Jarniewicz for this prestigious literary award – his book entitled "Tłumacz między innymi. Szkice o przekładach, językach i literaturze" was nominated in 2019.

Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Jarniewicz is the Head of the Department of British Literature and Culture, Institute of English Studies at the Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz. He is a poet, literary critic and a translator (he translates mainly English-language literature, including the works of James Joyce, Craig Raine and Philip Roth). Professor Jerzy Jarniewicz is a member of the editorial board of "Literatura na Świecie" and "Tygiel Kultury". He has published texts on literature in "Tygodnik Powszechny" and "Gazeta Wyborcza", and collaborated with British literary magazines. He is the author of, for example, over a dozen volumes of poetry, as well as collections of sketches and literary-critical essays.

This is the 26th edition of the Nike Literary Award, one of the most important distinctions for Polish authors. The award is funded by "Gazeta Wyborcza" and the Agora Foundation.
