The goal of the DocUp competition is to activate doctoral students who are members of Doctoral Students' Governments affiliated with the Doctoral Forum of Polish Universities in the field of scientific and local government activities. The competition is held in three categories:
- event organised by the doctoral students’ government
- scientific activity of a doctoral student
- government activity of a doctoral student.
The Council of the Doctoral Forum of Polish Universities in Toruń selected the winners of this year's edition of the competition. By a unanimous decision of the Jury, the winners in as many as two DocUp 2023 categories were doctoral students of the University of Lodz:
- mgr Monika Wilanowska took first place in the category "Government Activity of a Doctoral Student"
- mgr Justyna Gumulak took first place in the category "Scientific Activity of a Doctoral Student".

Mgr Monika Wilanowska is a doctoral student at the University of Lodz Doctoral School of Social Sciences. Since January 2023, she has been the Chairwoman of the University of Lodz Doctoral Students' Government Council and the 2nd Deputy of the Ombudsman for Doctoral Students Rights of the National Representation of PhD Candidates. She actively works for doctoral students at the University of Lodz. In 2023 she discussed with the University of Łódź authorities the possibility of introducing per diems, private medical care or sports cards for doctoral students, as well as increasing the amount of doctoral scholarships at doctoral schools. She tried to respond to all problems and needs of doctoral students, conducting numerous training courses and creating new teams of the University of Lodz Doctoral Students' Government Council. In the National Representation of PhD Candidates, she was responsible for preparing various types of opinions and legal information in response to inquiries submitted by doctoral students and preparing a report on the development of the institution of the Ombudsman for Doctoral Candidates Rights.
Mgr Justyna Gumulak is also a doctoral student at the University of Lodz Doctoral School of Social Sciences. She has been the First Deputy Chairwoman of the University of Lodz Doctoral Students' Government Council since January 2023. She was awarded in the DocUp competition for outstanding scientific achievements. The doctoral student is the principal investigator of two research grants implemented as part of the Preludium competition of the National Science Centre and the Doctoral Research Grants of the University of Lodz. In the previous academic year, she carried out three foreign scientific inquiries in Helsinki, Qatar and Brussels, and took an active part in a prestigious scientific conference.
In total, the jury of the DocUp (Doctoral Cup) competition awarded three prizes and three distinctions.
