ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER

During the studies it might be problematic for you to focus and cope with the stress related to classes and examinations. Sometimes it also happens that problems that we face are not related to academic life – but still, they make it challenging to learn and enjoy your time. Things happen in life and again, that is very normal, for each and every one of us experience this. But if you feel like you might be under the weather or simply feel bad more than a couple of days because of the stress you experience, please know that there is staff at the University of Lodz, from Academic Support Centre, that can come to the rescue and help in more difficult moments.

If you need some support regarding:

  • psychological issues
  • financial problems
  • crisis management
  • personal development

then UL Academic Support Centre will arrange a meeting with you where you can talk with an expert about your challenges and feelings. The Academic Support Centre is also organizing various training courses e.g. on skilful time management or effective learning, and others.

SAVOIR-VIVRE

PERSONAL CULTURE

  • Remember to be dressed appropriately. Clothes revealing very large areas of the body may be met with disfavor by lecturers.
  • When meeting (not only at the faculty) a lecturer or other employee of the University, say "good morning" to him/her.
  • Lecturers should be addressed using their academic title.
  • Vulgarities must have no place in academic space.
  • Be tolerant - racism and offensive comments have severe consequences at the University of Lodz.

CLASSSES

  • Be punctual. Lecturers appreciate this very much.
  • Don't use your phone during class, unless the lecturer is planning activities using electronic equipment.
  • Do not record lectures. Take photos if the lecturer agrees.
  • Be present in class. Each lecturer decides individually how many absences you can have in a semester.
  • Catch up on missed classes on a regular basis. You will make an individual plan with each lecturer to catch up on missed cases and classes.
  • Take notes during class, lecturers usually do not provide class materials.
  • Downloading and copying work is strictly prohibited.

COMMUNICATION AT THE UNIVERSITY

  • Try to come to lecturers only during duty hours.
  • Do not enter a lecturer's room as if it were your own - knock, swing the door open and ask if you can come in.
  • Some lecturers require an appointment in advance for on-call meetings.
  • If you have issues that are not connected with particular subjects, visit the Dean's Office of your Faculty.

CONTACT BY EMAIL

  • Do not write without a clear reason.
  • Indicate in the email your name, surname and which group, mode, year of study you are from, use polite phrases.
  • An email letter (even the shortest one) must begin with the phrase: "Dear Sir/Madam" (along with the title the addressee is entitled to) instead of "Hello", which is often encountered and far too confidential in official contacts. End with "With best regards" (together with the sender's name and the direction and year of study) instead of "Greetings".
  • It is mandatory to take care of the linguistic correctness of e-mails.
  • When contacting via MS Teams also follow the above rules.
