Nowocześnie o obywatelskości – projekt z udziałem UŁ

Scientists from the University of Lodz are helping to teach about civic mindedness. Nauka Obywatela [Teaching a Citizen] is a project coordinated by the Liberte! Foundation. It is addressed to teachers of citizenship, entrepreneurship and ethics in secondary schools. Via an online platform, a teacher gets access to a free of charge database of didactic materials, which are a supplementation of the core curriculum in the form of additional content.

Individual thematic sections have been developed by experts and educators, including those from the University of Lodz. The authors of the content are dr hab. Tomasz Kamiński, prof. of UL ("Migration" section) and dr Marcin Frenkel ("Social Media" section) from the Faculty of International and Political Studies, as well as dr Olga Łabendowicz ("Care for the planet" section) from the Faculty of Philology, who is the project coordinator at the Liberté Foundation!

The dedicated online platform is a comprehensive e-coursebook that contains ready-made teaching materials, topics for classroom discussions, interactive content, key issues and concepts, and lesson exercises. A teacher is given full freedom as to which materials to use.

Topics discussed within the project include key areas thanks to which the teenagers will be able to understand ways of functioning the contemporary world. Among the topics, there are: poverty, consumption, work, environment contamination, inequalities, migration, health, social networks, elections, media and propaganda.

Each chapter contains individual lessons elaborated in such a way so as to include economics, ethics and civic mindedness. The discussed issues take into consideration three approaches: at an individual, at a society and at a global level.

All the topics have been elaborated based on the core curriculum, simultaneously being its natural supplementation and extension. The proposed lessons present the discussed topics in accordance with the idea of integrated teaching of complex issues in an innovative and engaging way. Nevertheless, depending on the taught subject, a teacher can freely use the available materials to adapt them to their own and students' needs.

The overriding goal of the project is to facilitate the work of teachers engaged in shaping minds and broadening horizons of young citizens on their way towards conscious development. The elaborated materials are free of charge.

Naukaobywatela.pl project is coordinated by the Liberte! Foundation in cooperation with the Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI) under Erasmus+ programme.
