The Polish Academic Championships in swimming with participation of representatives of 83 universities were held in Lodz on the weekend of April 2-3. The best Polish swimmers, including representatives of the University of Lodz, stood on the highest step of the podium.

Jakub Kraska from the UL, won 4 medals during this year's Academic Championships in swimming.

Jakub Kraska, who represented the University of Lodz during the Tokyo Olympics, finished the competition in the “Sports Bay” in Lodz with a gold medal in 50m freestyle. In the 100m freestyle he won a silver medal. His medal achievements from the weekend were complemented by bronze medals in the men's and mixed 4 x 50m freestyle relay.

I am very happy with my performance. Medals won in your own country are always special. There was a great atmosphere at the swimming pool and you could see a lot of good competition. The Polish Academic Championships in swimming is a great competition and an opportunity to integrate and meet new people

– says Kraska, who – like many other participants – is fighting for a place in the team for the Summer Universiade and the European Championships in Rome (11-17 August).

Students of the University of Lodz stood on the podium many times during the championships in Lodz. The silver medal in the 50m butterfly swimming technique was won by Bartłomiej Lassek, who together with Maciej Woźniak, Patryk Pawlaczyk and Jakub Kraska also won a bronze medal in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay. Another bronze medal with the same distance and style, this time in the mixed relay, was won by Bartłomiej Lassek, Jakub Kraska, Katarzyna Golińska and Natalia Zrobek.

The competition was organised by the Academic Sports Club from Lodz. The Polish Academic Championships in swimming is one of the test events before the European Student Games (EUSA Games), which will take place in July this year in Lodz. The Polish Academic Championships in swimming partners were three universities from Lodz - the Lodz University of Technology, the University of Lodz and the Medical University of Lodz, as well as the Regional Swimming Association Lodz. The mayor of Lodz, Hanna Zdanowska, took the honorary patronage over the event.

During these two days, we handed out several hundred medals in various classifications. There were sports emotions, surprises, great atmosphere. It should also be added that the “Sports Bay” has proved to be a perfect place for organising academic competitions. Students and trainers were satisfied with the course of the event

– says Aleksandra Leszczyńska, secretary of the Academic Sports Club from Lodz, the organiser of the Polish Academic Championships in swimming.

The Polish Academic Championships are co-financed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, their main sponsor is LOTOS Group. The games are supported by the strategic sponsor of the Academic Sports Club - PZU Group.
