Studenci Prawa laureatami II Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu Moot Court

Kacper Filiński, Natalia Zurel, Michał Lewandowski and Aleksandra Jóźwiak, second-year full-time law students, have won the 1st place in the 2nd National Moot Court Competition in the area of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. Mgr Sebastian Czechowicz from the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz was the substantive trainer of the "Paragraphus Quadrigis" team.

The 4 students with their substantive trainer

During the first stage of the competition, the University of Lodz students created an indictment and a response to the indictment based on the presented case files. The high substantive level of the prepared letters let them qualify for the quarterfinal. The quarterfinal took place online. The victory in this stage gave them a pass to the next stage – the onsite semifinal. Eight best teams from Polish universities took part in it.

On 12 June 2023, the semifinal and then the final of the competition took place at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Szczecin. The stages consisted in presenting oral motives of the adopted argumentation in the submitted pleadings to the competition jury and presenting a reply to the opposing party's argumentation.

The excellent skills of the students let them get to the finals, where the 4 best teams competed. It consisted in presenting closing speeches and a reply to the opposing side's arguments.

Finally, by the decision of the competition jury, the team of our students won the final of the 2nd National Moot Court Competition.

Preparations for the competition took two months. The students, under my supervision, devoted this time to write pleadings, as well as perfect their pleading speeches. A very big effort of second-year law students translated into a nationwide success. The fact that they won the clash with the students of the 4th and 5th year of law studies, who were familiar with the issues of criminal proceedings, which is only in the third year of law studies constitutes another reason to be proud. This proves that it is worth setting ambitious goals.

– says mgr Sebastian Czechowicz, substantive trainer of the "Paragraphus Quadrigis" team.

It should be noted that this has been the second victory of the team from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz in this National Competition. Both last year's and this year's winners were substantively prepared by mgr Sebastian Czechowicz from the Department of Criminal Law.

We would like to express our congratulations and wish further success in the future!
