The decision to transfer PLN 150 million to universities for the renovation of dormitories and improvement of the social and living situation of students was made by the Minister of Science, Dariusz Wieczorek.
We have divided it fairly, depending on the number of places in the dorms. This is a kind of symbol showing how the ministry will operate at the moment. The division is clear and transparent
– said Minister Wieczorek.
The head of the Ministry of Science also announced comprehensive solutions aimed at the development and support of dormitories, including: creation of a special program for the renovation of dormitories
The granted PLN 150 million will go to the university in the form of an increase in the amount of subsidies for 2023 from financial resources for maintaining and developing teaching and research potential. Support will be provided to those universities that run dormitories.
Increases in the amount of subsidies were granted to:
- 85 public higher education institutions supervised by the minister responsible for higher education and science,
- one non-public academic university run by a church, financed from the State budget under the rules applicable to public higher education institutions pursuant to a separate act,
- one non-public vocational university run by a church, financed from the State budget according to the rules of public higher education institutions under a separate act.
The division does not include the 14 universities that do not run dormitories or did not show data in the approved reports for 2022. The amount has been divided based on the proportion of places in the dormitories as at 31 December 2022.
The granted subsidy increases are one-off and will not be included in the subsidy calculation basis for 2024.
