The winter examination session is underway, and we encourage you to get familiar with the most important announcements regarding the use of the services of the University of Lodz Library.

THE LIBRARY ACCOUNT

The account can be activated in person at the University of Lodz Library or at the Library of a given Faculty of the University of Lodz. It is possible to set up an online library account, allowing you to use the electronic collections of the Library. For this purpose, please send an e-mail to the following e-mail address: bul.wm@lib.uni.lodz.pl from the student or business e-mail set up in the UL domain. The necessary information and instructions will be sent in response. In order to be able to use the full offer of the Library and the Faculty libraries on a stationary basis (on-site), the library card/student ID must be authorized at the University of Lodz Library or a given Faculty library.

BOOKS LENDING AND RETURNING

Books can be ordered via the on-line catalogue with the collection location: BOOK VENDING MACHINE (service available for the academic community of the University of Lodz and graduates of the University of Lodz) or RENTAL DESK and pick them up in person at the University of Lodz Library, in accordance with the sanitary rules. 

Books can be returned as follows: 

  • use the BOOK VENDING MACHINE (service available for the academic community of the University of Lodz and graduates of the University of Lodz);
  • put the book into the DROP BOX located in the building of the University of Lodz Library;

  • give back personally at the RENTAL DESK, in accordance with the sanitary rules. .

  • RENTAL DESK – Mon - Sat 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. 
  • DROP BOX – Mon - Sat 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • STUDY ROOMS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF LODZ LIBRARY
    • Individual work rooms (Mon - Sat. 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.) – there is a possibility of booking the rooms in the Free Access Area for researchers, doctoral students and students of the University of Lodz; e-mail: rezerwacje.pokoi@lib.uni.lodz.pl, phone +48 42 635 64 82; 
    • Study rooms for group work (Mon - Sat. 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.) – each room can be used by up to 4 people at the same time; 
    • Study room for parents with a child (Mon - Sat. 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.) – the room can be used by 1 person with  
      a child/children at the same time; 
    • Coworking zone (Mon - Sat. 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.) – it can be used by up to 10 people at the same time.

ON-SITE COLLECTIONS SHARING 

  • FREE ACCESS AREA – in total 44 places to work (11 places on each floor), including 12 computer workstations (3 on each floor).
  • THE MAIN READING ROOM – 12 places to work, including 2 computer workstations, a workstation for using Eurostat microdata, a workstation for using doctoral dissertations, a workstation for using Academica Digital Scientific Publications Library. 
  • HISTORICAL READING ROOM – 18 places to work, including 2 computer workstations, a workstation for using the Academica Digital Scientific Publications Library.
  • SPECIAL COLLECTION READING ROOM – 3 places to work, including a computer workstation and a workstation for listening to audio documents. The resources of all sections of the Special Collections Department will be made available, after agreeing the details of the order with the section employee responsible for a given type of collection.

The most popular databases:

  • IBUK Libra – Polish, online academic publication service, providing academic textbooks, scientific, specialist and popular science books and journals from leading Polish publishers,
  • LEX – one of the largest Polish legal information systems. Data update in the system takes place on working days, several times a day,
  • EBSCO – a multidisciplinary database of books and electronic journals,
  • EMIS – a full-text database that includes publications, press and agency articles, reports, stock exchange reports, statistics and macroeconomic data,
  • Reaxys – a database in the field of organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry and related sciences,
  • Taylor&Francis – a full-text collection of Taylor & Francis journals in the field of science, humanities and social sciences,
  • Oxford English Dictionary – a dictionary that is widely recognized as an authority in the field of the English language. It is an important guide to the pronunciation of 600,000 ancient and modern words from around the English-speaking world.

PUBLISHING IN ENGLISH

For all those who write scientific publications in English, we recommend Writefull – these are specially designed tools for research employees and students to proofread scientific texts in English. It allows for corrections in the sentence structure of scientific texts, suggests missing citation elements and proposes discipline-specific vocabulary, which is particularly important so as to publish correctly in international journals.
