Łódzka biofizyk w Radzie NCN

By the decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education new members of the Council of the National Science Centre (NCN) have been appointed. Professor Barbara Klajnert-Maculewicz (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, UL) is among them. Such a prestigious distinction of the biophysicist from Lodz is an expression of recognition of the high quality of research conducted by the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz.

 

Prof. Barbara Klajnert-Maculewicz specializes in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, biophysics, pharmacology and cellular biology. Publications of the researcher from Lodz have very high citation rates at the level of about 400 citations a year (data from Scopus datatbase). Prof. Klajnert-Maculewicz has conducted research at the University of Canada, on a permanent basis cooperates with the University of Lodz and she cooperates with Leibnitz Institute of Polymer Research in Dresden as an external scientific member. She is a member of the Committee on Molecular Biology of the Cell, Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2018 she obtained funds for the project entitled: Cancer nanomedicine – from the bench to the bedside as part of a prestigious competition - European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST).

The Council of the National Science Centre, among others, announces competitions for funding doctoral scholarships and traineeships after obtaining a PhD degree. It chooses members of the Team of Experts giving opinions on applications submitted under NCN competitions and determines the list of disciplines and the level of their funding. The Body plays a role of a coordinator of individual grant competitions organized and funded by the National Science Centre.

NCN is a government agency, supervised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, set up in 2011 to support basic research in Poland. Basic research is defined as empirical or theoretical endeavours undertaken to gain new knowledge of the foundations of phenomena and observable facts, without any direct commercial use. NCN funds projects in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences and Engineering.
