This year, Jakub Groszkowski, Vice President of the Personal Data Protection Office, presented the award to Dr Edyta Bielak-Jomaa, as well as Dr Urszula Góra (University of Silesia in Katowice) and Iwona Niedzielska-Taźba (Primary School No. 17 in Rzeszów).

The award was presented for the first time in 2018 to commemorate Michał Serzeceki, the former Inspector General of the Personal Data Protection in the years 2006-2010, and to honour the efforts of people actively dealing with the protection of personal data.

In the face of major legal and technological changes, it is becoming increasingly important to educate and raise awareness of the right to privacy and personal data protection among individuals and controllers. Artificial intelligence and other applied technologies, on the one hand, facilitate organisation management thanks to their ability to quickly collect, collate, use and match  information. However, on the other hand, the use of these technologies may pose a threat to the rights and freedom of natural persons. In the context of privacy security and human comfort, it is crucial to consider the lawful, reliable and transparent use of technological solutions that shape the situation of natural persons and the knowledge and awareness of those, whose data is being processed.

– says Dr Edyta Bielak-Jomaa.
