The award gala took place last weekend in the Assembly Hall of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The author was awarded in the children's literature category for the book entitled. "Dwa słowa" [Two Words].
Anna Taraska graduated from Polish philology at the University of Lodz in 2000 and the German section of the Foreign Language College in Lodz in 2002 (at that time, this unit operated at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz). Professionally, she writes books and translates German-language literature for children. As an author, she debuted on the publishing market in 2018. Her book "Dwa słowa", for which she received the award, is a surprising story full of linguistic humour about the adventures of two friendly words living in a dictionary.
The Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw was reactivated in 2008, but its traditions date back to pre-war times. Its first laureate was the oldest son of Adam Mickiewicz - Władysław, and the last one before the war - Leopold Staff. As the organisers' website reads, the award is aimed at promoting reading and appreciating contemporary writers. Winners are selected in several categories, including prose, poetry, children's literature, comic books, graphic novels and books about Warsaw.
It should be noted that the work of Anna Taraska has yet again been appreciated by the professional body. In the past, the author has received the Dobre Strony 2022 editorial award (presented during the Wrocław Good Books Fair and awarded to the best children's book published in Polish in terms of editorial), as well as a graphic honour for illustrations and graphic design in the Book of the Year 2022 competition organised by the Polish Section of IBBY. She was also nominated in the plebiscite of book bloggers LOKOMOTYWA 2022 in the "from A to Z" category.
