Kulturalne lato 2023

Summer 2023 is full of cultural events which the University of Lodz and its partners are involved in. Outdoor film screenings at TME Polówka, performances at the Powszechny Theatre, the Summer Jazz Academy or the Filmowa Uroda Miasta 60/600 Festival at Charlie Cinema – these constitute the first part of the summer attractions that we would like to remind you about.

FILM SUMMER LIKE NEVER BEFORE

This year's TME Polówka Film Festival includes as many as 140 films in 20 locations. The screenings will take place from June to the end of September. The grand opening will take place during Midsummer Night at Józef Piłsudski’s Park (Park na Zdrowiu). On Saturday (24 June) you will be able to watch three films simultaneously:

  • Triangle of Sadness (2022), directed by Ruben Östlund – the main opening movie
  • Midsommar (2019) directed by Ari Aster
  • Shrek (2001), by Adamson Andrew, Jenson Vicky – you will be able to watch it directly from one of the pools in Fala Aquapark during the Night Swim!

This year, the screenings will take place in various locations – both those known from previous years (Julianowski Park, EC1, Fuzja) and new ones: the Museum of Cinematography and Monopolis.

The full programme can be found on the Festival website.

NOT ONLY "SHEAR MADNESS"

"Lato w Teatrze Powszechnym w Łodzi" [Summer at the Powszechny Theatre in Lodz] began on 16 June and during this year's edition of the project you will be able to see as many as 45 performances! The offer includes not only "Shear Madness" by Juliusz Machulski known to the majority of Lodz residents, but also "I wanted to be" by Wojciech Malajkat and many others.

This season was marked by the great return of the audience to the theatre after the pandemic. A very intense time is behind us, but we are not leaving for holiday after the last school bell. We will be performing until the end of July – we will present a dozen or so plays, there will be several dozen performances on two stages. As always, as part of the "Lato w Teatrze Powszechnym w Łodzi" – at special holiday prices. This way, we want to thank the audience for this joint, record-breaking season. This alliance with the audience always gives wings

– says Ewa Pilawska, Director of the Powszechny Theatre in Lodz

The full repertoire can be found on the theatre website.

THE CINEMATIC BEAUTY OF LODZ

Filmowa Uroda Miasta 60/600 [Cinematic Beauty of the City 60/600] is an undertaking which is to integrate various social groups and celebrate the jubilee of granting city rights to Lodz. The event will consist of numerous film screenings, lectures and meetings devoted to the history of the city and its presentation in the film, as well as an analysis of the contemporary identity of the city.

The festival programme will include screenings of feature films and documentaries about events and themes from the history of Lodz, including productions by Wytwórnia Filmów Oświatowych, the former Wytwórnia Filmów Fabularnych at Łąkowa, and etudes of great Polish directors and films produced by graduates of the Lodz Film School or teams and film studios that make up the legend of film Lodz to this day. Screenings of feature films are planned, in which Lodz plays an important role, both as one of the main characters and as a recognisable place for the audience.

The first screenings took place on 15 and 16 June. Information about further events will be available on the Charlie Cinema website
